Full Mouth Reconstruction

There are many reasons why a patient may need a full mouth reconstruction. At Salem Dental Arts we don't consider this process a cosmetic dentistry procedure, but a necessity for good oral health. A full mouth reconstruction is just that, completely fixing your oral problems and it may take up to a year to complete.

Why Do I Need A Full Mouth Reconstruction?
There are things like missing teeth, tooth decay, trauma, broken or cracked teeth, irregularly shaped teeth, discoloration, bite issues and other problems that call for a full mouth reconstruction.

Some of the procedures we use during reconstruction can be the same that we use for cosmetic reasons, but in this case, taking care of these issues will prevent even more serious problems from developing.

For example, missing teeth have a domino effect on your mouth and if you don't address this problem, especially when it's related to gum disease, you could lose even more teeth. Missing teeth can also cause more bone loss and shifting of other natural teeth, which could lead to biting problems.

Full Mouth Reconstruction Process
The process of a full mouth reconstruction can take up to a year, and, depending on the speed of recovery, it could be longer than that. Every person will react differently to dental procedures. Moreover, a patient's oral health will also impact the duration of the process.

During your consultation, we will discuss your oral and overall health because you may require several surgeries. Our surgeon will explain what to expect when going through this process and we will also give you information on the cost involved.

Procedures For A Full Mouth Reconstruction
A full mouth reconstruction is made of several different dental procedures. Some of the most common surgeries with this restoration are:

• Extractions: When there are several missing teeth and to prepare you for dental implants or other replacement options, we may need to remove any remaining teeth.

• Dental Implants: We use dental implant techniques such as All-on-4® treatment concept to replace missing teeth. This technology sometimes allows us to restore your teeth in one visit.

• Dentures: We have fixed and removable denture options for you to choose from.

• Crowns: The crown is the visible part of the tooth that shows above the gumline. If you are getting implants, we will need to reconstruct all your crowns.

• Bone grafting: To prepare you for your dental implants, we may need to strengthen your jawbone with bone grafting. If we use the All-on-4® Treatment Concept, we will not need to use this procedure.

• Sinus lift: This is required when your upper mandible cannot support a dental implant. It is a relatively minor procedure that can be done with local anesthesia.

With a full mouth reconstruction, we can also use things like dental bridges, crowns, teeth whitening, and braces among other techniques to give you a beautiful new smile and more importantly restore your oral health to what it should be.
